Since the inception of the Pine Nut Mountains Trail Association, one of the most beneficial projects that we have accomplished is our yearly cleanup of illegally dumped garbage in the Pine Nut Mountains.
During our May 2013 cleanup, volunteers picked up over 34,000 lbs of garbage. In June 2014, we picked up over 20,000 lbs.
PNMTA receives an incredible amount of support from local four wheel drive clubs, The Sierra Stompers have shown up in force to help for many years and the Nevada Four Wheel Drive Assoc. has also been a huge help. Many local backcountry users who just want to help clean up the Pine Nuts show up every year. Local businesses such as V&C Construction and Bing Materials have been a huge help, and we couldn’t do this without the generous support of Douglas Disposal Inc.
The date of the cleanups are generally in the spring. Occasionally we will organize two per year. One in the spring and one in the fall. The location of the cleanup staging area is dependent on where the greatest concentration of garbage dump sites are at that time.
